TREB FEST 2018, one of the most exciting networking and fundraising events of the year, was held on Thursday, May 10 at Cube Nightclub in downtown Toronto. With over 300 people in attendance in support of the Homes First shelter-based charity, the event was a great success.

TREB FEST 2018 offered Members in attendance countless opportunities to network and have fun with colleagues. The night's festivities included a dance floor, plenty of "pay-to-play" entertainment, a souvenir photo booth, and a live auction.

All the money raised from the event's ticket sales and entertainment was donated to Homes First. The shelter-based charity was selected as the recipient of this year's donations by 2017/2018 TREB President Tim Syrianos, who also served as the event's host.

Established in 1983, Homes First is one of the largest providers of social housing in the City of Toronto and helps to provide shelter for over 550 seniors, families, and vulnerable adults to help break the cycle of homelessness.

Community involvement and giving back are core components of TREB FEST, and the annual event marks a key example of how TREB Members play a positive role in the communities they serve.

TREB FEST 2018 was made possible thanks to the hard work of the TREB FEST Task Force. Thank you for your efforts!

How Metrolinx is Taking Service to the Next Level

$

Whenever Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster is on a bus or a train, he makes it a point to ask commuters about their GO Transit experience. According to Verster, no two issues are raised more than Wi-Fi and capacity.

It's clear commuters don't only want to be connected to more people and places, but they want a good on-board transit experience as well. Metrolinx is listening, and is working on making its system the best it can be for its customers.

Below is a summary, as provided by Metrolinx, on how the Crown Agency is creating
a better transit experience for its customers today and for generations to come:

  • A trial for Wi-Fi is underway as of this spring, with the goal to roll the service out across the GO network as soon as possible;
  • The GO Expansion plan has already been put into action, as Metrolinx has increased GO train service by more than 70 per cent since 2013, adding more than 800 train trips every week. Metrolinx is transforming the existing GO rail system from a commuter-focused service into a two-way, all-day service on core segments of the network;
  • Metrolinx is focused on every second of the commute, with plans to introduce level boarding to increase accessibility for all passengers while saving time on every stop, as trains won't have to stop at an exact point to meet the accessible platform;
  • Metrolinx is looking to reduce the sound and environmental impact of its GO trains with electrification;
  • With the PRESTO system, riders can take advantage of discounts when moving across participating transit systems in the region, including bus, streetcar, train and subway routes. Plus, the recent provincial budget signalled a move to lower GO fares to $3 within the City of Toronto, as well as for trips less than 10 kilometers, further reducing commuting costs;
  • Metrolinx is working to provide better connections between people's homes and transit stations, and is encouraging and enabling sustainable travel options, like walking, cycling, and carpooling; and
Metrolinx is growing its existing bus and rail system through the introduction of projects, including the GO Expansion, the Eglinton Crosstown, and the Hurontario and Hamilton LRTs. Through their community relations teams, Metrolinx aims to make the planning and construction work as easy as possible for their customers while identifying and responding to issues, and mitigating against construction impacts for their existing and future customers.

Update on RECO Processing Delays & New Feature on Registrant Search

$
0
0

Boards have been advised by RECO of the following processing delays and new feature on Registrant search.  Notice posted verbatim as received from RECO:

"We know that RECO's recent application processing delays have been impacting many of you at the local board/association level. We apologize for the ongoing delay and the extra work it may be creating for you to verify your members' registration with RECO.

RECO's Registrant Search feature - now showing renewals in process
RECO's Registrant Search feature has now been updated to show when a registration renewal is in progress. If a registrant's expiration date has passed, but their status is listed as "eligible to trade; renewal in process," they are allowed to continue trading. We hope this feature makes it easier for you to confirm the registration status of your members.

We are aware that there are functionality challenges with new registrants not appearing on the search. That issue should be resolved soon. We will inform you once that update is complete.

Update on the processing delay
RECO is taking numerous steps and using an "all hands on deck" approach to expedite the processing of applications; however, it will take time to return to our service standards. We expect new registration and re-instatement application processing times to return to normal levels by mid-June, and renewals by mid-July.

What if a registrant has submitted their renewal application but it's not processed before their registration expiry date?
If a renewal application has been submitted, the registration is deemed to continue and the registrant is allowed to continue trading. Their registration on the MyRECO Certificate App and the Registrant Search feature on RECO's website will show they are eligible to trade.

New registrants are frustrated that they are unable to begin trading until their application is processed. What can we tell them?
We continue to prioritize processing applications that impact a person's ability to trade, namely new registrations and re-instatements. We understand the frustration among those who are waiting for their registration to be approved and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience the delay may have caused.

While we understand that the recent issues have been frustrating, please know that this recent system upgrade will, in short order, enhance our overall service delivery by enabling our staff to work faster and more efficiently.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Thank you for your ongoing patience."

DIS Notices Transitioning to Email

For your convenience, beginning June 4, 2018, after REALTOR® QUEST, TREB will be transitioning to providing DIS (Data Integrity Service) Notices by email.

During the transition, some Brokerages (e.g., Broker of Record, Manager and affected Salespeople) will continue to receive notices by fax, while others will receive notices by email. The number of notices sent via email will increase over the course of the transition until all Members receive DIS notices by email only.

We recommend that you communicate this change in delivery method to your Salespeople and office Staff. You can refer them to the posting of this message on Stratus. Further communications will be sent to Members as a reminder throughout June.

By July 3, 2018 we anticipate that all Brokerages will be receiving DIS Notices by email.

This transition was requested by Members and approved by TREB's Board of Directors. Receiving notices via email will increase efficiency for Members and also provide a more modern way to receive DIS Notices.

Below is an example screenshot of how a new DIS Notice will look in your inbox:

Please ensure you and your Salespeople are regularly monitoring the single (primary) email addresses you've provided to TREB as required by the Authorized User Agreement. Failure to act on DIS Notices sent to single email addresses will result in this matter being referred to the Professional Standards Roster for further action.

Single email addresses can be checked and modified in Manage My Profile found on the left sidebar of the Search Properties page (see below) or, via TREB's Spotlight On Over 100 Services page.

For assistance, contact the TREB Help Desk at 416-443-8111.
