On December 11, the home ownership dreams for twelve families, including the Herrada family, were achieved and celebrated at a special Habitat for Humanity GTA Welcome Ceremony at 140 Pinery Trail.
As part of the Welcome Ceremony, TREB President-Elect Lisa Patel, along with TREB Board Directors Susan Gucci, Keith Kwan and Lori Roberts presented the Herrada family with keys to their new home in Scarborough North (Ward 23).
Former TREB President and Toronto Ward 23 Councillor Cynthia Lai joined the TREB team to deliver remarks at the event. She noted that she plans to continue working with the mayor and council to advocate for housing affordability.
Habitat for Humanity GTA CEO Ene Underwood emceed the event and thanked TREB for its sponsorship role as a Groundbreaker. The TREB team was also introduced to Sharon Avery, CEO of the Toronto Foundation.
TREB Members Help Support Home Ownership Dreams
TREB Members have played an integral role in being ambassadors for the communities they live and work in.
In 2019 alone, TREB served as a Build Level Partner, donating $75,000 to Habitat for Humanity GTA. This donation is part of TREB's contribution of $1 per Member per month to the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation's Every REALTOR® Campaign.
Also this year, several TREB Members took the initiative to volunteer hours of their own time at a Habitat summer Build Day to help with the construction of a home.
And, this past September TREB participated in another Welcome Ceremony to present the Berhanu family with keys to their new home. To read about this ceremony, click here.
Support by TREB Members dates back to 2016/2017, where the home ownership dream for the Kabir-Akter family was achieved. If you want to read more about the Kabir-Akter family and TREB's contribution, click here.
