The use of electronic signatures on real estate agreements of purchase and sale will be permitted in Ontario as of July 1, 2015.
The Government of Ontario’s decision stems from the proclamation of the 2013 amendment to the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 (ECA), which extended the legal protections of the Act to include electronic real estate agreements of purchase and sale.
The amendment to the Electronic Commerce Act will make electronic signatures legally equivalent to signatures on paper documents for real estate transactions.
