The Toronto Real Estate Board, as part of its contribution to the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation's Every REALTOR® Campaign, is proud to donate $150,000 to Habitat for Humanity GTA's latest home build project at 140 Pinery Trail. TREB's support will help a deserving GTA family, the Kabir-Akters, achieve their dream of home ownership.
Build Days at the 140 Pinery Trail site are scheduled on October 5 and October 6, 2016 as well as November 17 and November 18, 2016, and we encourage all of our Members to consider volunteering.
Participating in a Build Day is a great way to give back to the community, while meeting some like-minded colleagues and connecting with TREB staff.
Again, Build Days are scheduled on October 5, October 6, November 17 and November 18, 2016, and the following details apply:
Time: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

About the 140 Pinery Trail Site and the Kabir-Akter Family
The Kabir-Akter family, headed by Humayunn and Bilkis, currently live in a one-bedroom apartment with their two children Humayura (12) and Farhan (6). Despite working two jobs to provide for his family, Humayunn never thought owning a home in Canada would be a reality. With the safety and stability their new home will bring, many of them plan to pursue further education, with Bilkis aspiring to go to school as the kids grow older and both children planning to attend university in the future. The Kabir-Akter family also plan to introduce themselves to the other Habitat partner families once they've settled in.
About the Every REALTOR® Campaign
At our May 2016 Spring Annual Meeting, GTA REALTORS® voted to participate in the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation's Every REALTOR® Campaign for the ninth consecutive year by donating $1 per Member per month. If You Plan to Volunteer, Please Read This:
Build Day Details:
- Upon registration, participants will receive complete Build Day details.
- Arrive promptly at 8:00 a.m., as Habitat for Humanity GTA cannot guarantee accommodation of late arrivals.
- Dress suitably for both indoor and outdoor work – long pants and socks aremandatory.
- Bring a refillable water bottle and sunscreen.
- Habitat for Humanity GTA will provide:
- All necessary personal protective equipment and tools.
- A lunch according to most dietary restrictions.
Participant Restrictions:
Participants aged 17 and below will be prompted to print a volunteer waiver that must be completed, signed by a parent or legal guardian, and brought along with the participant to the build site. Habitat for Humanity GTA regrets that per Ontario Ministry of Labour guidelines, they cannot accommodate build site volunteers below the age of 16. They require that for every five volunteers of age 16 or 17, there must be one adult volunteer, age 21 or above (e.g., 15 minors require 3 adults). Finally, Habitat for Humanity GTA cannot accommodate participant numbers in excess of 20 volunteers per day, as these requirements are critical to delivering a safe, productive and enjoyable Build Day. Habitat for Humanity GTA reserves the right to refuse admittance to those groups not adhering to these guidelines.
